PRESS: Min sees demand for high-capacity gas turbines at 80 by ‘35

MOSCOW, Oct 30 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Industry and Trade Ministry expects demand for medium- and high-capacity gas turbines of up to 11 gigawatts (GW) to amount to 80 by 2035, business daily Kommersant reported on Tuesday, citing a source with knowledge of feasibility studies.

Siemens said in July 2017 that all the four turbines meant to be used on a Russian power plant on the Taman Peninsula were illegally shipped to Crimea, forcing the company to cancel its licensing agreements to sell power equipment to Russian firms and suspend then-current agreements with state-run companies.

According to the sources cited by Kommersant, 303 gas turbine units, mainly produced by GE and Siemens, work in Russia, with a total capacity of 16.3 GW, while Russian companies do not produce this kind of equipment.

Creation of the domestic high-capacity turbine market was initiated by a 1.4 trillion ruble program of equipment upgrade by the Industry and Trade Ministry, which stipulates 100% production in Russia by 2023.

Power companies are in talks with Siemens on local production, but it can be attained no earlier than in 2023, and Inter RAO is negotiating license purchase from GE.
